We spent a wonderful time in Region Seefeld – surrounded by mountains and nature, it was the perfect escape from busy city life. We hiked through meadows and forests, ate delicious food (Kaiserschmarrn forever!), tried fishing, cuddled bunnies, and simply recharged our batteries. Region Seefeld is an ideal destination for families, and in this post, I’ll show you why.
Getting to Seefeld by public transportation
Reaching Seefeld from Berlin is easy. We took an ICE train to Munich and then switched to regional connections to Seefeld. The journey was quick and pleasant, and here’s a great tip for families: children under 14 travel for free on DB long-distance trains, which significantly reduces travel costs. Onboard, kids can also pick up free little trains and magazines from the restaurant – a nice extra for keeping them entertained.
Getting around in Region Seefeld
Region Seefeld makes getting around easy for visitors. If you stay in an official accommodation, you receive the guest card ‘PlateauCard’, which gives you free rides on all public buses in the region, the train between Seefeld and Scharnitz, and the Wildmoosbus.
The card is not only about free transport – you also get discounts on many attractions, including swimming pools, guided hikes, family-friendly events, and even mountain lifts. A great bonus for families who want to explore more while keeping costs down.
A fantastic idea that makes family travel so much easier!
Family-friendly accommodation in Seefeld
There are countless options for families, but we stayed at Appartements Rabitsch Hof, and it was a great choice. It is only a 10-minute walk to town’s center, directly opposite a beautiful lake with a lovely walking path. The apartments are comfortable, with a well-equipped kitchen, and just 2 minutes away there’s a large supermarket for groceries.

Best attractions for families in Region Seefeld
Rundwanderung zur Triendlsäge
A very pleasant circular walk through meadows and forest. Our kids loved running around and enjoying the scenery. Flowers were blooming everywhere – it was stunning. Make sure to stop at Triendlsäge Gasthof Restaurant; the food there is absolutely delicious.

Rundwanderung Wildsee
Another easy and enjoyable route, this time around the Wildsee lake. There are information boards about local flora and fauna, and kids can explore Kneipp water basins – a fun (and freezing!) experience.

Die Leutascher Geisterklamm with kids
What an incredible place! The Geisterklamm (Ghost Gorge) is a thrilling gorge walk with high bridges and a roaring river underneath. Along the way, kids will find interactive elements, games, riddles, and fun facts about the gorge’s legends. Our children were fascinated and didn’t want to leave.

Fishing at Leutascher Fischerei with kids
After Geisterklamm, we went fishing at Leutascher Fischerei – a picture-perfect fishing spot surrounded by mountains. The kids were over the moon and caught a whole bucket of fish! You don’t need to bring anything – all equipment is available to rent, and the staff explains everything. You can either take your fish home or have them cooked on the spot. Amazing experience!

Bergbahnen Rosshütte Seefeld with kids
You can’t miss this! Take the cable car up to Rosshütte, where you’ll find a fantastic playground with Kugelbahn, trampoline, and plenty of space to play. Kids will love it.

From there, you have different options. You can simply enjoy the playground and walk or ride back down to town, or you can do what we did – take another cable car up to Seefelder Joch (2024 m). From there, we hiked to Seefelder Spitze (2221 m) and then via Härmelekopf to the Härmelekopfbahn, which brought us back to Rosshütte.

Was it challenging? For me, definitely – I need to work on my fitness! But for the kids, it was pure joy. They almost ran the whole way, excited about the snow patches still lying around and the adventure of mountain hiking. Good hiking shoes are a must!
Back at Rosshütte, the children played at the playground again, and then we hiked down to town, stopping for a well-deserved, delicious meal at Hocheggalm. We were exhausted but incredibly happy.
Sigi’s Sauhaufen in Seefeld
On our last day, just before taking the train back, we visited Sigi’s Sauhaufen – a lovely little farm where kids can cuddle bunnies and pigs, feed rabbits with dandelions, and take a relaxing walk around the property. A perfect way to end our stay!

Where to eat in Region Seefeld
Food in the Seefeld region is simply delicious. We indulged in local specialties, and almost every restaurant offered a kids’ menu. Most places also had crayons and coloring sheets, which made waiting for the food much easier for the little ones.
Our recommendations:
- Triendlsäge Gasthof Restaurant – our absolute favorite, with the tastiest food of the trip.
- L5 Restaurant, Südtiroler Stuben & Restaurant Seefelder Stube – three pleasant restaurants in the center of Seefeld, serving traditional Austrian dishes and more. Definitely worth checking out.
- Gasthaus Klammgeist im Alten Zollhaus – a unique spot in an old customs house, with monastery ruins and a beautiful meadow just across the road. Fantastic views.
- Hochegg Alm – a great place to stop on your way down from Rosshütte. Stunning views and delicious food – we loved it.

Final Thoughts
We had an amazing time in the Seefeld region. We played, relaxed, and completely fell in love with the place. Truly, Seefeld is an ideal destination for families with children – we can’t wait to come back!
This trip was part of a collaboration and we were kindly invited by Region Seefeld – but, as always, all opinions are entirely my own.
