Vejle and Lego House with kids
Sometimes the best places are the ones you find by accident – and that’s exactly how we ended up in Vejle. I was looking for accommodation near Lego House in Billund but couldn’t find anything that made sense. Instead, I found a lovely hotel in Vejle, and it turned out to be the best decision.
We spent three nights in Vejle, and I can honestly recommend it not only as a base for visiting Billund but also as a charming destination on its own. It’s a small seaside town full of interesting places to discover, friendly people, and peaceful corners that make you slow down.
Where we stayed in Vejle
We stayed at The Note Hotel, located in a quiet park about a 15-minute walk from the train station. The rooms are spacious and bright, and I loved that they had real potted plants – such a rare touch that makes everything feel more homely. Breakfast was delicious, the staff were kind, and the lobby was a nice place to relax in the evening. I can truly recommend it.

What to see in Vejle with kids
Vejle Art Museum with kids
Admission is free, and this museum is a real gem. Both Mira and I loved it – I enjoyed the main exhibitions, while she spent time in the children’s area. The mix of contemporary art and interactive spaces makes it an inspiring place for both adults and kids.

Vejle Kulturmuseet with kids
Another museum with free entrance, and a surprisingly fascinating one. We came mainly to see the body of the Haraldskær Woman – one of the best-preserved bog bodies in the world, discovered in 1835 and more than 2,000 years old. It’s quite an experience to see her in person. The museum also has a children’s section about knights and archaeology, with hands-on activities and play stations.

Vejle harbour and Bølgen
Take a walk along the harbour, which is currently undergoing a big transformation. You’ll find modern architecture, calm water views, a nice playground, and several places to sit and enjoy the atmosphere. Make sure to stop by Bølgen (“The Wave”) – an iconic residential complex of five wavy buildings that has become the symbol of Vejle. We spent a few hours there, finishing our walk with hot dogs from Kokken’s Pølsevogn – simple and very good. There is also a nice Monstrum Playground opposite the hot dogs place.

Getting from Vejle to Lego House
From Vejle, it’s very easy to reach Billund by direct bus. The journey takes about 50 minutes, and the stop in Billund is only a short walk from Lego House. It’s comfortable, straightforward, and perfect if you’re travelling without a car.
Lego House Billund with kids
During our stay in Denmark, we spent a full day at the Lego House in Billund – and it was an amazing experience. Many people still confuse it with Legoland, but they are completely different places:
– Legoland is a theme park with rides, roller coasters, and shows.
– Lego House is a creative experience centre where you build, play, and create – it’s all about imagination and creativity for both kids and adults.

We spent hours inside, and it was hard to convince Mira to leave. The building is divided into four creative zones:
– Red Zone – pure creativity, where you can build anything that comes to mind
– Yellow Zone – emotions and stop-motion films
– Green Zone – storytelling and Lego worlds
– Blue Zone – engineering challenges and car racing
I also liked how well the space was planned for different needs – there are calm rooms for breaks, and even noise-cancelling headphones available for anyone who needs them.

Outside, there are several playgrounds around the building that are open to everyone without a ticket. Kids can climb, slide, and explore for hours. Inside, don’t miss the Lego history area, where you can see how the brand evolved over time and browse some of the most iconic sets from decades ago.

It’s a place where adults and children play together, creating, building, and laughing. If you’re visiting Denmark with kids, Lego House is absolutely worth it.
Final thoughts about Vejle with kids
Vejle turned out to be one of those small, unexpected discoveries that make a journey memorable. It’s calm, friendly, and full of interesting places, and it makes a perfect base for visiting Billund and Lego House.
If you’re planning a family trip to Denmark, don’t rush straight to Legoland. Spend a few days in Vejle, enjoy its museums and harbour, and then take the short trip to Billund for a full day of creativity at Lego House. It’s a combination that both kids and adults will love.
