Gothenburg with kids: a perfect family adventure

We spent five full days in Gothenburg, Sweden, and honestly, we could have stayed even longer! There’s so much to see and do for families here that five days just scratched the surface. Gothenburg with kids is an ideal destination for a family vacation, and our love for Sweden has only grown – we’re already planning our next visit. Here’s a guide to our favorite spots in Gothenburg with kids.

Top Attractions in Gothenburg for Kids

Gothenburg Museum of Art (Göteborgs Konstmuseum)

Our journey began at the Gothenburg Museum of Art, a perfect introduction to the city. We were lucky to catch a special exhibition featuring the work of Ilon Wikland, the beloved illustrator of Astrid Lindgren’s stories. Her illustrations were not only visually stunning but also full of emotion, captivating both adults and children. The museum offers other fascinating exhibits, making it an interesting place to visit when exploring Gothenburg with kids.

Liseberg Amusement Park

Liseberg is an absolute must-visit for families visiting Gothenburg. This amusement park is packed with attractions for all ages, from thrilling rides to gentler options for younger kids. With two amazing playgrounds designed by Monstrum Playgrounds, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. The Liseberg app is a lifesaver too, allowing you to buy discounted tickets and join virtual queues to cut down on wait times.

Gothenburg City Museum (Stadtmuseum Göteborg)

Next, we visited the Gothenburg City Museum, where we dove into the city’s rich history. The exhibits are interesting for all ages, and there’s a dedicated play area for young children, making this an excellent choice for a family outing.

Museum of World Culture (Världskulturmuseet)

The Museum of World Culture is a hidden gem that’s especially popular with families. The children’s section is thoughtfully designed and packed with engaging activities that kids will absolutely love. If you’re short on time and need to pick one place to visit with kids, this is the one!

Alfie Atkins’ Cultural Centre

For fans of the beloved Swedish character Alfie Atkins, this cultural center is a delightful stop. Although it’s a smaller venue that can get crowded, it’s a fun spot for young children, especially those familiar with Alfie Atkins’ books.

World of Volvo

For car-loving kids, World of Volvo is a fantastic attraction. This recently opened center features a museum dedicated to Volvo cars. We focused on admiring the stunning architecture of the building itself, but if your child is fascinated by cars, this is a must-see.

Exploring Gothenburg: A Family-Friendly City Walk

No trip to Gothenburg would be complete without a walk through the city. We were enchanted by the old district of Haga, the iconic Feskekörka fish market building, and the vibrant street murals around the city. Gothenburg is best explored on foot – let yourself wander and discover hidden gems!

Green spaces and playgrounds in Gothenburg

Gothenburg has plenty of green spaces and beautifully designed playgrounds that kids will love. Here are our top picks:

  • Plikta Playground – This playground, located in Slottsskogen Park, features a giant whale structure from Monstrum Playgrounds, along with other creative play installations. It’s the perfect spot for kids to play and for families to relax.
  • The Rain Playground – Situated in Renströmsparken, this unique playground is designed for fun in the rain, making it a fantastic place to visit when the weather is less than perfect.
  • Excursion Playground in Jubilee Park – This playground is a true masterpiece, with every element designed with kids in mind. It’s a bit outside the city center, but well worth the visit for its creativity and beauty.

The Gothenburg Archipelago: a must for families

A trip to the Gothenburg archipelago is a must when traveling with kids. We chose to visit Vrångö, and it was an amazing decision. The island’s walking trails showcase stunning landscapes, and during our visit, the heather was in bloom, adding even more charm. Despite being peak season, we rarely saw other tourists, allowing us to enjoy the tranquility of the island fully. Getting to Vrångö is easy with the city’s public ferry system, and the Västtrafik app makes finding routes and buying tickets a breeze.

Family-friendly hotel in Gothenburg: Spar Hotel Gårda

During our stay, we stayed at Spar Hotel Gårda, which we highly recommend for families. The hotel is welcoming and family-oriented, with friendly staff, delicious breakfasts, and a modern design. Family rooms and kid-friendly amenities make it a comfortable base. The hotel also offers free access to a sauna, gym, games, and – one of the best perks – complimentary use of a washer and dryer. It’s a perfect choice for families looking for comfort and convenience.

Why Gothenburg with Kids is a Great Choice

If you’re looking for a family-friendly vacation spot, Gothenburg with kids is a fantastic choice. This city offers stunning scenery, green spaces, and countless attractions for families. We loved every minute of our trip and can’t wait to return to Gothenburg!

When people think of Florida, they often picture amusement parks, Miami, or Cape Canaveral.
But for us, the real magic lies elsewhere - in the wild places. 🐊🌿
Because as always: #itsbetteroutside

Our Florida trip was all about nature - kayaking through mangroves, spotting manatees, hiking jungle trails, and watching sunsets on quiet beaches.
And once again, the girls mostly wore their favorite @namuk pieces - comfy, colorful, and perfect for warm-weather adventures.

This spring collection is full of soft layers, fun prints, and smart details like recycled fabrics and quick-dry shorts. 🌊🐾
It’s made for kids who love to move - and mine really do.

Nature is always the heart of our travels - and @namuk just fits right in.

✨ Little challenge: how many different animal species can you spot in the video? ✨

Sail, snorkel & kayak – one magical morning in Key West 🌴💦
We joined the @danger_charters tour and it was one of the best adventures of our trip! From snorkeling with lobsters and colorful fish to sailing with the kindest crew (and delicious snacks!) – every moment was special.

But the real highlight? Kayaking through the mangrove forest. 🛶 It was pure magic – we spotted turtles, giant crabs, birds, a shark(!), and even a starfish. I so regret not bringing my camera for that part!

The kids had a blast, the stories from the crew were fascinating, and it’s a memory we’ll treasure forever. If you’re in Key West - this tour is an absolute must. 🌞🐠🌊

🐊 Everglades National Park is one of the most unique national parks in the U.S. - and one of the largest! Established in 1947, it protects over 1.5 million acres of wetlands, swamps, and mangroves, and is home to crocodiles, manatees, panthers, alligators… and even dolphins, which we spotted on our boat tour from Everglades City (highly recommend!).

🐊We explored the park from three different entrances:

Everglades City by boat - magical experience with wildlife sightings

Shark Valley Visitor Center - take the tram tour! Our guide was a brilliant storyteller, and we learned so much. You ride out to an observation tower and return via a different route, with animal stops along the way. You can also rent bikes here!

Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center - great educational exhibit + short walking trails. We loved Anhinga Trail, Gumbo Limbo Trail, and Pinelands Trail.

🐊Your entrance ticket is valid for 7 days, which is amazing.

🐊We stayed overnight in Everglades City, and it was a great base for the boat tour - but you could also visit from Miami, Homestead, or even Naples depending on the area you want to see.

💚 Everglades truly stole our hearts - wild, vast, and unforgettable. Don’t miss it if you’re planning a trip to Florida!

Sunset sail with @honestecotours was the perfect end to a busy day in Key West. We relaxed on the water, sailing into the golden light - with a friendly crew, tasty snacks, and a small group that made the experience feel really special. And if you’re lucky, you might even spot wild dolphins! We liked it a lot and would definitely do it again.

Myakka River State Park was the very first place where we saw alligators in the wild 🐊- and little did we know we’d be seeing them a LOT more often after that 🤣

The entrance fee is just $6 per car, and honestly, it’s one of the best $6 we’ve spent in Florida!

Right at the beginning, you cross a bridge over the river - make sure to stop there, because you’ll see lots of alligators. You can spot them so clearly, just chilling in the water. 🐊🌿

Then head up to the canopy walkway and the observation tower - the views are very nice. We also walked a bit along the trails; there’s one right by the river where you can see even more gators.

You could easily spend a whole day here and not get bored. And yes - you can even stay overnight! There’s a campground on site.

We have such good memories of this place. Definitely worth a stop if you’re exploring Florida’s wild side. 🌴🌞

You could easily spend a whole day here and not get bored. And yes - you can even stay overnight! There’s a campground on site.

We have such good memories of this place. Definitely worth a stop if you’re exploring Florida’s wild side. 🌴🌞

Myakka River State Park was the very first place where we saw alligators in the wild 🐊- and little did we know we’d be seeing them a LOT more often after that 🤣

The entrance fee is just $6 per car, and honestly, it’s one of the best $6 we’ve spent in Florida!

🌴We spent such a relaxing time at @tarponlodgerestaurant , located on peaceful Pine Island.
🏝️Our Florida trip was pretty intense, and Tarpon Lodge was exactly what we needed to recharge and slow down.

Comfortable rooms, stunning balcony views, breathtaking sunsets, a pool, and a restaurant with delicious food – what more could you ask for?

A huge thank you to @tarponlodgerestaurant for the wonderful hospitality!

And if you feel like moving a bit, there’s also a lovely short hiking trail through a mangrove forest nearby – the St. Jude Nature Trail.

It was such a special time… I miss that sky, the water, and the birds already! 🌅 😍

When I was a kid, a friend once brought me shark teeth from her holiday trip. I barely remember the story, but I clearly remember the teeth!
So when I found out that you can actually search for fossilized shark teeth on Florida’s west coast beaches – I knew my kids would LOVE it.
And honestly, who wouldn’t be excited finding 5–20 million years old fossils?

We ended up finding over a dozen shark teeth – and also some stingray teeth! (At first I didn’t know they were fossils too… so I threw them away… then we@found out and kids cried… and started searching all over again. True story.😂)

Useful tips if you want to try it too:
	1.	Beach: Caspersen Beach – THE place for shark tooth hunting.
	2.	Equipment: Bring basic sifters! Honestly, you don’t need anything fancy. We had a simple toy shovel for $1 from Walmart – it worked perfectly.
	3.	Best time: They say low tide is best for finding teeth. Maybe! But we went during high tide and still found plenty.
	4.	Don’t miss: Apart from shark teeth, look for stingray teeth too – they are longer, rougher, and just as exciting to find.
	5.	Nearby: Caspersen Beach is next to a small park with a pond – it’s worth a visit! Tons of birds, an alligator, and we even spotted a (non-venomous) snake!
	6.	Most important: Finding your own fossils is pure joy. Good luck and happy hunting!

#manatees #crystalriver #floridawithkids
To be honest, the manatees were the real reason behind our Florida trip, and we basically planned our whole route around seeing them!

The manatee season runs from November to March, when the ocean gets too cold ❄️ and these gentle giants move into the rivers to stay warm. The best place to see them? Crystal River – also known as the manatee capital of the world. It’s the only place where you’re officially allowed to swim with them.

I was honestly scared we wouldn’t see any since we arrived after the season, but luckily there’s a resident manatee population that lives in Crystal River year-round.

During the season, you can just walk to Three Sisters Springs National Wildlife Refuge and sometimes see hundreds of manatees at once – I can only imagine how magical that must be ✨.

Off-season though, I wouldn’t recommend it – tickets are expensive, we didn’t see any animals there, and it felt a bit underwhelming.

Instead, I highly recommend booking a tour with Nature’s Discovery Manatee Tours – ideally the early morning one (we booked the 7:30 AM tour) ☀️ when manatees are most active. The guides were amazing, real professionals who knew exactly where to find them and when to jump into the water.

Swimming with the manatees was absolutely magical. I literally had tears in my eyes – it was that moving. The kids loved it too ❤️. Truly an experience I’ll never forget.

After snorkeling, we visited Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park, where you can see rescued and rehabilitated animals – including a few manatees.

And just when we thought the day was over, we stumbled upon a small viewing platform… and there they were: a few beautiful manatees swimming right in front of us 🥹.

I honestly felt like my dream came true 100000% ✨

We spent exactly 1.5 days in Miami, and if I were planning our trip again, I would definitely add one more day. We loved it so much – the atmosphere is amazing and you immediately feel like you’re on vacation! ☀️

And about the nature… while it’s beautiful and definitely worth exploring a bit, after everything we saw later during our trip, I would probably skip nature activities in Miami next time and focus fully on the city/beach attractions.

Here’s a little recap of our stay:

Accommodation – We stayed at Sonder the Deco in Miami Beach, just a 10-minute walk from the beach 🏖️ – a really great choice! I booked it way in advance, and the price was fantastic. Such a pleasant place!

Miami Beach – A must-see! The iconic colorful lifeguard towers, lizards, iguanas, interesting bird species, and of course, the wide beautiful beach. At the end of it, you’ll find the South Pointe Park Pier with a really nice view.

Ocean Drive – Also a must! Art Deco architecture at its finest!

Food – For breakfast, we went to Cafe Americano ☕, for coffee and delicious pastries go to Bettant Bakery & Café 🥐, and for lunch, don’t miss Coyotaco in Wynwood – the tacos were incredible! 🌮

Wynwood Art District – You have to visit! 🎨 Stunning murals, cool hidden corners, and such a great vibe – we loved it.

Nature – Besides the beautiful beaches and parks, you can also head to Oleta River State Park, rent a kayak 🛶 at Oleta River Outdoor Center, and paddle through the mangrove forests.

They say you might spot manatees, dolphins 🐬, or even sharks, but we only saw a few cool bird species – still, it was such an amazing experience!

Miami – 100% recommend! ✨
