Hannover with kids – top family-friendly attractions

My daughter and I spent a fantastic weekend in Hannover! This city has so much to offer—culture, art, nature, and attractions specifically for children. The vibe is great, it’s clean and green, and we were pleasantly surprised by the bike-friendly infrastructure. Next time, we’ll definitely be exploring on bikes!

    Getting to Hannover

We traveled to Hannover by train. From Berlin, it takes just under two hours, making for a quick and comfortable trip. It’s worth booking tickets in advance for better prices.

    Hannover with kids – attractions

We spent two full days in Hannover and trust me – there was no time to get bored! There are enough attractions here for several visits, and we had a blast exploring:

Erlebnis ZOO Hannover – I have to say, this is one of the best zoos I’ve ever been to. Located right next to a large forest complex, it gives you the feeling of being in nature. The animals have spacious enclosures, the zoo is filled with exotic plants, it’s very clean, and there’s a wide variety of attractions. There are numerous playgrounds and themed sections, and you can see that the zoo is continually expanding and modernizing. There’s also a pavilion with a fantastic photography exhibition. The ticket price includes a boat ride, and I highly recommend it; it’s so relaxing to see the animals from a new perspective. The zoo has plenty of food stands, so whether you’re after a snack or a full meal, you’re covered. Of course, ice cream is also available! We spent hours here and could have easily stayed longer, but we wanted to see more of the city.

A great way to explore Hannover is by following the “red thread”—a red line painted on the ground that guides you to the city’s main attractions in the center. The entire route is 4,200 meters long. It’s a fun way to discover the city, especially for kids, who enjoy following the line.

Be sure to take the elevator up to the dome of the Neues Rathaus. The elevator is unique as it goes up in an arc – a fascinating experience. The views from the observation tower are breathtaking.

A visit to Hannover isn’t complete without a trip to Herrenhäuser Garten and Berggarten. Herrenhäuser Garten is a beautiful baroque garden complex with a stunning palace. Spend some time here enjoying the fountains, maze, themed gardens, and more. Berggarten, a botanical garden, has greenhouses and a vast area for a pleasant stroll. It’s home to Europe’s largest collection of orchids and impressive cacti. Both gardens are must-sees in Hannover.

For kids, Zinnober is a fun visit. It’s not a traditional museum but more like an interactive space for play and learning, much like some spots in Berlin. Kids can explore and learn through play with support from educators. We enjoyed the current exhibition on logic games.

Hannover is well connected and bike-friendly, making bike rental a good idea. We also saw many cyclists and cautious drivers, which added to the city’s bike-friendly feel. Another great option is the drop-on, drop-off tourist bus, which covers the city’s main sights. With an audio guide included, you’ll learn all the interesting facts along the way. Tickets are available from the driver or the tourist information center.

Hannover has art around every corner, from beautiful murals to street sculptures. Grab an informational leaflet to guide your art tour. Don’t miss the surfers on the Leine River – it’s such fun to watch. This spot is near the Nanas sculptures by Niki de Saint Phalle, which you can also reach by following the “red thread.”

    Dining in Hannover

We had breakfast at our hotel, lunch at the Hofladen in the zoo, and another meal at the highly recommended Francesca & Fratelli pizzeria. We can vouch for the recommendation – the pizza was delicious, and the staff was so friendly. The restaurant is centrally located, making it very convenient. For a coffee treat, check out Gottfried’s Feinkiosk in Leibnizhaus—the espresso tonic was the best.

    Where to stay in Hannover

We stayed at the Mercure Hotel Hannover City. It was clean, had tasty breakfasts, and the staff was friendly. What really stands out about this place is the location—it’s across from a park, close to museums, and just a three-minute walk to the Neues Rathaus. Although it’s in the city, the area feels calm and peaceful.

    Hannover with kids – conclusion

Hannover with kids is a fantastic idea – you definitely won’t be bored, and kids will find plenty to enjoy. A weekend in Hannover is a perfect family city break, and I truly hope we get to return, as we didn’t have time to see everything I had in mind.

    Warm regards!

🪩Have you ever been to a party in a museum?
I have - and it was amazing! 🪩🖼️

Last weekend I went to Life on the Island, the opening night of a whole summer full of events celebrating 200 years of Museum Island in Berlin. 🎉

It’s all part of a beautiful idea: Flix and Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz have teamed up to make culture more fun and accessible - with museum tickets to win, exclusive events, and an easy train ride with @flixtrain 🚆🎫

✨ free museum tickets
🎭 cultural events & summer vibes
🚉 zero stress, just hop on a train

I really love the concept - bringing people closer to art and turning Berlin’s most iconic island into a little getaway. 🌿

And this kick-off event was just the beginning - there’s more to come throughout the summer☀️ Museum Island is always worth a visit: whether you’re exploring exhibitions 🏛️, joining an event 🎶, or simply soaking in the atmosphere 💫

🪻May might just be my favorite month of the year. Spring is in full bloom, everything feels alive and flowery 🌿
It’s also the month of my birthday — and the month I became a mum for the very first time.
This May was all about flowers, playgrounds, two lovely dates with my husband, delicious food, and so many strawberries 🍓 Sweet moments with good people. Singing, walks, everyday little wonders ✨
A few mini trips too.
And a heart quietly glowing with joy for the months ahead.

Wishing you a beautiful June 💛

When people think of Florida, they often picture amusement parks, Miami, or Cape Canaveral.
But for us, the real magic lies elsewhere - in the wild places. 🐊🌿
Because as always: #itsbetteroutside

Our Florida trip was all about nature - kayaking through mangroves, spotting manatees, hiking jungle trails, and watching sunsets on quiet beaches.
And once again, the girls mostly wore their favorite @namuk pieces - comfy, colorful, and perfect for warm-weather adventures.

This spring collection is full of soft layers, fun prints, and smart details like recycled fabrics and quick-dry shorts. 🌊🐾
It’s made for kids who love to move - and mine really do.

Nature is always the heart of our travels - and @namuk just fits right in.

✨ Little challenge: how many different animal species can you spot in the video? ✨

Sail, snorkel & kayak – one magical morning in Key West 🌴💦
We joined the @danger_charters tour and it was one of the best adventures of our trip! From snorkeling with lobsters and colorful fish to sailing with the kindest crew (and delicious snacks!) – every moment was special.

But the real highlight? Kayaking through the mangrove forest. 🛶 It was pure magic – we spotted turtles, giant crabs, birds, a shark(!), and even a starfish. I so regret not bringing my camera for that part!

The kids had a blast, the stories from the crew were fascinating, and it’s a memory we’ll treasure forever. If you’re in Key West - this tour is an absolute must. 🌞🐠🌊

🐊 Everglades National Park is one of the most unique national parks in the U.S. - and one of the largest! Established in 1947, it protects over 1.5 million acres of wetlands, swamps, and mangroves, and is home to crocodiles, manatees, panthers, alligators… and even dolphins, which we spotted on our boat tour from Everglades City (highly recommend!).

🐊We explored the park from three different entrances:

Everglades City by boat - magical experience with wildlife sightings

Shark Valley Visitor Center - take the tram tour! Our guide was a brilliant storyteller, and we learned so much. You ride out to an observation tower and return via a different route, with animal stops along the way. You can also rent bikes here!

Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center - great educational exhibit + short walking trails. We loved Anhinga Trail, Gumbo Limbo Trail, and Pinelands Trail.

🐊Your entrance ticket is valid for 7 days, which is amazing.

🐊We stayed overnight in Everglades City, and it was a great base for the boat tour - but you could also visit from Miami, Homestead, or even Naples depending on the area you want to see.

💚 Everglades truly stole our hearts - wild, vast, and unforgettable. Don’t miss it if you’re planning a trip to Florida!

Sunset sail with @honestecotours was the perfect end to a busy day in Key West. We relaxed on the water, sailing into the golden light - with a friendly crew, tasty snacks, and a small group that made the experience feel really special. And if you’re lucky, you might even spot wild dolphins! We liked it a lot and would definitely do it again.

Myakka River State Park was the very first place where we saw alligators in the wild 🐊- and little did we know we’d be seeing them a LOT more often after that 🤣

The entrance fee is just $6 per car, and honestly, it’s one of the best $6 we’ve spent in Florida!

Right at the beginning, you cross a bridge over the river - make sure to stop there, because you’ll see lots of alligators. You can spot them so clearly, just chilling in the water. 🐊🌿

Then head up to the canopy walkway and the observation tower - the views are very nice. We also walked a bit along the trails; there’s one right by the river where you can see even more gators.

You could easily spend a whole day here and not get bored. And yes - you can even stay overnight! There’s a campground on site.

We have such good memories of this place. Definitely worth a stop if you’re exploring Florida’s wild side. 🌴🌞
